2020 Shenk’s Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey

Shenk’s Homestead Distillery Sour Mash Whiskey celebrates the legacy of legendary American whiskey figure John Shenk, who founded the distillery in 1753 that would become known in the 20th century as Michter’s. This is made according to the conventional Sour Mash method in Kentucky, whereby a part of the previously distilled whiskey mash (called “setback”) is applied to the next batch. This small batch, full bodied whiskey is at 91.2 proof.

Appearance: A rich chestnut hue.
Nose: Honey, cherry oak, and a slight mintyness with orange zest.
Palate: Luxurious, round mouthfeel, caramel and burnt sugar with a light smokiness upfront and exotic spice at mid-palate.
Finish: A long one, exhibiting the whiskey’s depth of flavor.
